General MacArthur 36" Suction Dredge provide the controls for the complete dredge which included Redundant Control logic PLC with remote I/O which was a combination of Point I/O and Moxa. Vacon Drives with Ethernet communications. Generator integration was accomplished with Prosoft modules. Magna Manufacturing built a robot cell that manufactured motor mounts for Dodge Vehicles. The system consisted of a compact logix that controlled the clamping, turn tables and interfaced with motoman robots.
West White Rose Project wrote the VFD interface for the drilling drives. This included two Drawworks drives, two Top Drive Drives, three mud Pump Drives, two cement pump drives, three rectifiers and one Active Front End. This project required us to interface with HMH and Schlumber over ethernet and PNP couplers. The drives had to be programmed for different scenrios.

Natual Gas Yard troubleshoot some pumps where there were no drawings. Found many issues such as neutral wires disconnected, control wires disconnected, no resets for faults in the software. Troubleshooting an offshore crane in Brazil. The encoder coupling came loose. Troubleshoot shipyard drive loses. There was too much moisture in the drive houses which caused popcorning of the electronic components.
Trained maintenance personnel how to clean radar probes. During this case the maintenance person spent days trying to determine why the probe would not work. I showed him how to clean and calibrate the probe.
Performed HIL testing on the Clair Ridge in Norway. During the testing we fouind numerous software issues that the OEM had to correct. The client stated we saved them 6 months of commissioning time.
Installed PID control on a valve feeding a natural gas processing plant from the pipeline. I used two pressure transmitters and a differential flow transmitter as feedback for the PID loops. Three PID loops had to be created to control one valve based on the pressure conditions. Two of the loops were pressure controllers and one was a flow controller.
Semisubmersable offshore Indoneia the hydrracker kept stopping during operations. I used hydraulic pressires to determine which solenoid was not energizing. We found the coil in the solenoid had failed.

Commissioning - Deepwater Discovery in Brazil. I commissioned the Pipe Racking machine after a thrid-party rebuilt it. This was a 90 day commissioning project with multiple other crew commissioning other drilling tools.
HMI - General McArthur I developed the FactoryTalk SE system which was a redundant client server application. The operator had six screens and the engine room had nine screens.
Multi-Vendor Integration - I integrated the drilling drives with HMH and Schlunber on the West Whilte Rose Project Drive scenario programming - I setup the drives from different scenario. For instance, if the drive loses ethernet communications to the PLC. The drive will ramp to zero and hold torque. When communications are re-stablished nornal drive operations will continue. Automatic Condtrol - On the General MacArthur the operator would push one button which would start all auxilliary equipment in preparstion for dredging.
Noble had a drawworks with four motors and three of the motors had ground fault relays. The four did not have a ground fault realy. The four motors were all showing ground faults but the actual ground fault was on the motor with no ground fault relay. I explained to them how the zero sequence ground faults are mutual and recommended they install a ground fault relay on the fourth motor without a trip and install a ground fault locator system.
