Matthew — Robotics/Automation/Welding Technician

My primary duties are installing, modifying, commissioning, and maintaining machines that fill and package Keurig coffee pods. I've worked on every phase of these coffee filling and packaging machines from placing and fixing the machines to the factory floor, to assembling and testing the machines, and running and supporting full production. I've organized machine parts and inventory as it came in the door, delegated assembly work and tasks to the team, and assembled and modified machines using SAP 3D, BOMs, and prints according to specifications from HQ in Italy. During testing and production, I work with and help train Keurig associates, make mechanical, electrical, and program modifications and adjustments to improve machine design, speed, efficiency, reliability, and product quality, perform routine maintenance and upkeep, and make any planned or unplanned repairs.

Tower Automotive-Plymouth, Michigan(4 months) Technician on a new production line building Jeep Wrangler frames for Chrysler. Our team was responsible for maintaining and repairing all equipment in an extremely high-paced production environment. Equipment consisted mostly of Fanuc galvanized MIG welding and material handling robots, conveyors, trunnions, fixtures, and other automated machinery. Constantly monitored processes looking for ways to optimize quality, efficiency, and productivity and implemented solutions to our findings such as robot reprogramming and equipment modifications. Also monitored weld positions and quality and modified positions and parameters accordingly to meet specifications. Gestamp-Union, South Carolina(7 months) Our team was responsible for starting up lines, working out issues, and improving cycle time for this Tier 1 supplier to BMW for class A surface body parts. Provided production support for these same lines. Equipment included gluing, clinching, riveting, material handling, laser and MIG welding, hemming, and nut-welding Kuka KRC4 robots, curing ovens, fixtures, conveyors, etc. We continuously made improvements. Akebono Brake Corporation-Columbia, South Carolina(7 months) Provided production support for the aluminum brake-casting foundry in this plant. I was there primarily for robotics support, but also performed electrical and mechanical repairs, PMs, and process improvements. Equipment included ABB IRC5 material handling and sawing robots, a KUKA KRC2 material handling robot, casting dies, 8-die turntables, metal dosers, cast cooling towers, sandcore knockout stations, Cognex camera stations, shotblast machines, and conveyors. Eberspaecher Exhaust Systems-Spartanburg, South Carolina(4 months) Provided robotics, mechanical, and electrical support and preventative maintenance for this muffler manufacturing plant. Mainly a BMW supplier. Equipment included material handling and MIG welding Motoman NX100, DX100, and DX200 robots, pipe benders, stuffers, and seam welders.

Model X4 Bodies. Was responsible for maintaining and repairing all equipment in my area during production and shutdown (PM) which consisted of mostly ABB IRC5 6640 and 7600 manipulator robots, conveyors, fixtures and other automated machinery. Worked in all build areas of my body shop. It was fast-paced as we had to get the equipment back up quickly and required good communication with direct co-workers and superiors. Used SAP work order and inventory software to look up and order parts, materials, and tools we needed, entered work orders, confirmed work completed, and recorded downtime during production for root cause failures and what we did to repair it.

Performed preventative maintenance and repairs on commercial electrical, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, fire, safety, security, parking, commercial appliance, elevator and communications systems. Performed various other preventative and aesthetic installations and repairs such as painting, caulking, drywall, sealing, wallpaper, grout, fixtures and lighting. Called on and worked closely with various vendors and contractors. Multi-tasked by attending to requests, issues, and needs coming from guests and all hotel departments while working on projects.

Test ran, disassembled, and determined and documented root cause failure of various AC and DC motors, pumps, blowers, gearboxes and aerators. Inspected rotors and tested for continuity, performed megohmmeter, HI Pot, surge, PI, and phase resistance winding tests and inspected bearings, journals, and housings. Ordered replacements for worn or broken parts and scheduled machines for cleanup, burnout, machining, rotor balancing and rewinding. Cleaned, painted and reassembled machines to factory condition. Removed, installed, and performed preventative maintenance on motors and pumps on site. I also have basic knowledge of rotor balancing and coupled shaft alignment.

Pulled parts from bill of materials and fabricated, assembled, wired, and inspected electrical control panels for proper setup and continuity according to shop schematics and specifications.
