Equipment Maintenance Technician to Automation Controls Technician Primary Responsibilities Support new equipment installs for the Model 3 production line. Support operations by providing operator training and investigating and resolving reoccurring issues. Provide training to maintenance personnel on equipment processes, downtime recovery, step-by-step troubleshooting (SOPs), and escalation guidelines. Document outstanding tasks and develop a line by line action plan to track open items through completion. Developed charts and graphs using SQL databases to illustrate high downtime equipment and presented potential avenues of improving equipment performance and reliability. Safety Tesla EHS Safety Team member with safety trainings and contributions including, but not limited to, eliminating slip, trip, and fall hazards, ladder safety, hazardous material handling and disposal, fire safety, safe energy isolation (LOTO), and arc flash gowning and boundaries. Trace voltage and/or resistance across safety relays, estops, light curtains, door switches, continuity loops, pressure switches, etc. Electrical Troubleshooting of electrical circuits ranging from 480/120/24V by verifying the correct voltage level, current draw, or resistance level across a variety of devices such as solenoids, coils, relays, motor contactors, transformers, fuses, circuit breakers, disconnects, 3-phase motor winding, and VFDs. Able to connect to SEW, Allen-Bradley, and Eaton drives and servos to read, write, and modify internal parameters. All work is conducted after ensuring all energy sources have been isolated, verifying all sources are in a zero energy state, equipment is locked out and tagged out, boundaries are set (if applicable), and all applicable PPE and gowning is inspected and worn. Instrumentation Confident in connecting to, diagnosing, and calibrating specific instruments through the use of special software, plug-ins, and cables such as proximity sensors, temperature sensors, humidity sensors, pressure sensors, flow sensors, hall-effect sensors, distance finders, light curtains, area scanners, weight scales, orientation aligners, height/width/length sensors, Cognex vision systems, Keyence vision systems, and SICK scanner systems. Able to determine if a device will provide a feedback of 4ma-20ma, 0V-10V, or variable resistance. PLC Controls and Networks Adept in connecting to a wide variety of PLCs such as, Allen-Bradley Compact Logix and Control Logix PLCs using RSLogix5000 or Studio 5000, Siemens S-300 and S-1500 PLCs using Step-7 Classic Simatic Manager or TIA Portal. Able to remotely and locally diagnose and troubleshoot PowerFlex 525 VFDs, G110D VFDs, Prosoft network translators, and a wide variety of analog and discrete devices communicating over various industrial communication protocols including, but not limited to, Profibus, Profinet, Ethernet/IP, RS232, DeviceNet, ControlNet, and AS-I. MES Ease in navigating through various MES systems such as SAP, EAM, Leading2Lean, Flux etc. Able to trace messages between integrated subsystems within the MES to troubleshoot where and why data went missing and root cause the communication gap. Able to diagnose and distinguish MES errors rooting from; failed communication to server, failed floor equipment, operator error etc. Mechanical Perform inspections and PMs on conveyors such as CDLRs, right angle transfers, vertical elevators, pop-up transfers, turntables, pallet squaring units, stackers/destackers. Verifying chain/belt tension as well as belt/chain tracking and alignment. Ensuring all drive train components such as bearings, sprockets, gears, and shafts are in good condition. Maintain debris and moisture free air by routinely servicing filters, regulators, valves, flow controllers, nozzles, and cylinders. Troubleshoot mistimed, slow reacting, or non-responsive electro-pneumatic components. Ensure that all energy isolation and dissipation components and lockouts are working properly. Breakdown Resources Versatile use of resources including, electrical schematics, mechanical schematics, pneumatic schematics, hydraulic schematics, controls drawings, vendor supplied maintenance manuals, Engineering and vendor support calls, HMIs, and PLCs. Fabrication Diverse knowledge of industrial fabrication through the proper use of hand tools, power tools, fasteners, screw and bolt types, thread gauges, metric vs standard tooling, sheet metal, electrical conduit, 80-20, unistrut, wire gauges, wire colors (US/UK), wire termination, calipers, squares, levels, and micrometers.
