Kenneth — Automation Engineer

I have a great interest in technology, architecture, design and am passionate about innovation, human factors (ergonomics) and user experience. I have spent the last 17 years of my career in the Machine Tool Industry. The last seven years I have worked in a multi-faceted roll as a Machine Builder, Service Technician, Applications Engineer, Designer, Controls Engineer, PLC and Robotics Programmer for an OEM in the Cutting Tool Industry. I found great reward in this work conceptualizing ideas, bringing them to life. identifying high level problems and expediting highly functional solutions. The greatest aspect of this work for me was collaboration with customers and other engineers to bring about solutions that maximize efficient output and minimized user inputs while designing problems out of equipment, software and processes. The first ten years I was involved in Natural Stone Fabrication using various automated equipment, digital templating technology and many types of Cad/Cam software. Aside from computeraided drafting, programming and machine operation, I learned a lot about removing process bottlenecks through developing visual communication tools and more efficient staging as a Production Manager and later as a Consultant. I have some experience in nearly every aspect of residential construction and have been trained as a Residential Energy Auditor. I am currently studying for my Michigan Residential Builders License. I am a Vacation Rental Host and love to travel. I much prefer the comforts of a home to a hotel on my own adventures. I am passionate about the environment, the outdoors and self sufficiency. I like to stay up-to-date on the latest developments in alternative energy. This summer I tested ETFE flexible solar panel technology paired with LiFePo4 batteries to first create a solar pontoon conversion and then to take my RV off grid and experience net zero living. With the advancement of energy efficient living and the 2009 energy code for residential building I have been exploring environmental sensor technology with the intention of developing a more concise feedback loop and control system for healthier habitable spaces. I am seeking out opportunities for hands-on design, creation, automation, robotics, building, application development and high-level technical problem solving. I would prefer to find projects that are for the betterment of humanity helping to reduce life cycle cost and carbon footprint.
