These pressures come in the form of; A retiring workforce, Loss of tribal knowledge, The lack of skilled employees entering the workforce, Investing in new equipment or repurposing existing equipment to adapt to product demands. Since 1995 I have been working with Rockwell PLC and robotics in the automotive and packaging industry working on a variety of applications. My passion is sharing my experiences and knowledge that I've gained from my valued peers with others. I genuinely feel that connecting on-the-job learning with hands on practical training is the most effective learning technique. I work primarily with OEM's, System Integrators and End users to develop new machine concepts, design the electrical controls architecture for entire system integration, and plan migration strategies for existing machine upgrades. I am a firm believer in using the right tools for the job.

Taught automation classes at the local University and Tech College for the Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering and Mechatronics Programs which focus on PLC, vision, robotics and general automation concepts. Brought a real world approach to teaching in the classroom which helped students make the transition from classroom to the job market.

Product Specialist working with vendors and Account Managers, as part of the Motion and Mechatronics group, to grow product awareness, identify gaps, and create product demand. Define and grow new markets for emerging product technologies. Develop and maintain key relationships with suppliers. Evaluate Vision system and barcode applications. Size and select servo motors, gearboxes, and actuators to match machine design for motion control applications. Primary product focuses include PLC, HMI, VFD, Motion Control, Vision, Robotics and Rockwell Software products. Coordinate pre-sales technical resources as well as post-sales technical and startup support for Industrial Manufacturing customers at End Users, OEMs, and System Integrators. Design controls architecture to develop a complete bill of material for a variety of machines in industries such as; Automotive, Food & Beverage, Semiconductor, Foundry, Glass Manufacturing, Packaging, Print & Publishing, Oil & Gas, Water/ Wastewater. Configure and startup Rockwell Automation products, as well as, third party vendors. Conduct proof of concepts, customer training, lectures and product demonstrations. Participate in business planning with Account Managers and senior leadership to analyze market conditions, develop an annual business plan and coordinate its implementation. Designed electrical controls panel and developed programs for Fanuc Robotic Packaging/Palletizing systems, and conveyor systems utilized in packaging line applications. Worked with Mechanical Engineers and Project Managers during the project review meetings to verify machine function and establish project cost estimation while still meeting customer expectations. Supported new product development and custom application projects as well as developed electrical controls solutions using current technology that meet market and/or customer requirements. Led troubleshooting efforts and performed service-related tasks to support products in the field. Provided in-field startup support, while training service technicians and maintenance staff onsite at the customer facility.

Responsible for the daily assignments of a crew of robot programmers at General Motors on new project installations. Handled startup support, service calls, downtime tracking and cycle time process improvements to increase machine uptime and product quality. Maintained a standard for quality programming, which involved evaluating system functionality and ensuring that the programming reflects a user-friendly interface. Coordinated with engineering and maintenance on existing machine control modifications to robotic, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and vision systems.

ABB Field Service Technician handling warranty repairs and customer service calls for General Motors, Chrysler and Ford Motor Company. Coordinate and perform manufacture upgrades to mechanical, electrical and software components related to robot service work. Part of a team of robot programmers who worked with Controls Engineers to layout, program and runoff productions lines for new automotive body shop installations consisting of 120–600 robots. Included tearing down the cells and shipping the lines to assembly plants throughout the US, Canada and Mexico. Developed software improvements, and custom interfaces for various applications, such as; MIG welding, resistance welding, stud welding, material handling, dispensing, water jet cutting and glass cell applications to meet customer needs.
