Automation and Controls Engineer contract in Highland Park, Michigan. $80/hr · 8 weeks.
Experienced Automation and Controls Engineer needed for a 1-2 month contract.
The main missions of the role are:
Support launch of manufacturing equipment (assembly, welding) Siemens TIA portal “STEP 7” and winCC HMI.
Debug of automation issues in new equipment.
Troubleshooting controls issues on robots. Fanuc is most important for this project.
Support configuration of all equipment that arrives in the facility.
Interface with group IT, ensuring smooth startup of traceability systems.
Interface with local and global teams to ensure read across of automation standards.
Support equipment specification development with other process engineers.
Ensure electrical safety systems are properly applied and locked.
Participate in equipment development and build at supplier facilities ensuring proper application of company standards.
Lead implementation of shop floor traceability systems.
Develop training protocols for plant engineering team.
Stay current on developments within the automation supply base.
Support development of core documentation (PFMEA, Control Plan, etc.).
Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge of manufacturing controls systems (PLC’s System communications, Manufacturing Execution Systems)
o Broad knowledge of PLC programming (Siemens), ladder logic and structured text language.
o Programming of HMI panels (Siemens).
o Desired experience working with LabVIEW.
o Desired experience working with robots (FANUC), programming and integration
o Integration experience between shop floor machines and higher level systems for data collection & traceability (OPC Server & client and similar).
o Desired experience working with servo motors (Allen Bradley, Bosch Rexroth), set up, troubleshooting.
o Experience with vision systems / vision sensors / barcode readers, integration, troubleshooting.
o Desired experience working with thermal transfer label printers (Zebra, Intermec, CAB).
o Knowing and understanding different safety levels and how to apply them to comply with local standard.
Ability to read, understand and co-develop electrical prints.
Ability to troubleshoot and repair electrical system issues (480V/120V/24V).
Ability of analytical thinking to troubleshoot complextechnical problems.
Ability to perform under pressure.
Improve and build internal standards.
Desire to learn and integrate new systems into existing manufacturing, and be a technical leader in Industry 4.0 and Digital enterprise.
High Energy and positive attitude. Ability to work through and around roadblocks as they come up.

1-6 month contract Approx 50-60 Hours per week. Scheduled for 8am to 5pm shift, but must be flexible and willing to work off shifts/overtime when needed.
Equipment and platforms on this work: Keyence, LabVIEW and Siemens.
Tools called for: Basic Electrical Tools, Basic Hand Tools and Lockout Tagout Kit.
