An ABB robot programmer is wanted in Armada, Michigan, from October 14, 2026, to support the commissioning of automotive automated manufacturing equipment. The robots handle material and work with vision inspection, and they are programmed to Ford's FAST / Frameworks robot template, so experience with that template is required. It pays $68 an hour base and $96 an hour overtime, in US dollars, on a day shift of an estimated 10 to 12 hours a day, 5 days a week, for an estimated 3 to 4 weeks.
Robot programming for a commissioning
Commissioning is the stretch between a line being installed and a line running at rate, and it is where robot programming gets real. Paths that looked right in an office have to clear real fixtures, real grippers and real parts. Handshakes with the line controls have to hold up when the line is fed for hours, and every fault has to recover the way operators will need it to. This contract is programming support through that stretch: material handling robots moving parts, and robots working with vision inspection, on equipment built for automotive manufacturing.
Vision changes the job. A robot working with a camera has to wait for an inspection result, act on a pass or a fail, and keep its timing while it does, so the programmer ends up tuning the conversation between the robot, the camera and the controls as much as the robot's own moves.
Why the Ford FAST / Frameworks template matters
Automakers set their own standards for how robot programs are written, so that a robot in one plant is built and behaves like a robot in the next: the same structure, the same naming, the same way of talking to the line. When equipment is built to Ford's standard, the robot programs follow Ford's FAST / Frameworks template, and a programmer who already knows it starts on the first day instead of the second week. That is why the customer lists it as required, not preferred.
ABB IRC5 and RobotStudio
The robots are ABB robots on the IRC5 controller, and RobotStudio is on the list too: ABB's software for building and testing robot programs offline before they meet the real cell. If you have programmed IRC5 robots in RAPID, brought them up on a commissioning and taken programs from RobotStudio to the floor, this is your kind of work.
The schedule and the rate
It is a day shift, an estimated 10 to 12 hours a day, 5 days a week, starting October 14 for an estimated 3 to 4 weeks. The base rate is $68 an hour and overtime is $96 an hour, both in US dollars. This is a White Glove contract, so Automate America pays you, on Net 15 terms. You will need US work authorization and a current certificate of insurance with $1,000,000 in general liability before you start.
Right here in Michigan
Armada sits in northern Macomb County, north of Detroit, in the part of the country where America has built its cars for more than a century. For a robot programmer, Michigan is home ground: the plants, the suppliers, the integrators and the machine builder are all here, and a few weeks of commissioning work in Armada keeps you close to all of it. Anyone working on a site in the state should know MIOSHA, Michigan's workplace safety agency, and SME is a good place to keep your manufacturing skills sharp between contracts.
For companies with commissioning work of their own
Any plant, integrator or machine builder can post work the same way this customer did. On Automate America it is free to post, free to apply and free to hire, the customer names the work and the rate, and there is no bidding and no negotiating: the rate on the contract is the rate, so you are choosing the best professional, not the cheapest.
Professionals apply with their profiles, ratings and reviews, and service companies can put their own people forward. Once the work is posted, getting it in front of the right people is our side of the arrangement: we write it up and send it out by email, video, articles like this one and every social channel we run. Choose White Glove and Automate America is the one approved supplier on your books, paying the professionals and sending you one invoice. If you have robot work coming up, post it free on the marketplace.
What a strong application shows
Be specific about the template and the robots. Say which Ford programs you have written or supported to the FAST / Frameworks template, which IRC5 robots you have commissioned, and whether you have tied robots to vision inspection or run material handling cells at rate. If a commissioning ever came down to one stubborn fault, say what it was and how you found it. Keep your profile current too: ratings, reviews and completed contracts are the first things a customer reads.
