Our Clients are upgrading older PLC systems from Allen-Bradley, Schneider and Siemens to a standard format of Rockwell Compact Logix 5000 with Point I/O racks. These upgrades will be for very mission-critical computer data center buildings. The existing Power, HVAC, Security, Lighting, and Alarm Systems are presently sending signals to these older PLC via their respective I/O systems. These systems are presently at or near End of Life and will be totally retrofitted by the project. Power Distribution and HVAC controls and monitoring are seen as the most critical areas in these upgrades.
In a safe, efficient and professional manner the Industrial Automation Engineer will support the Engineering Project Manager in the preventative, corrective, and general design for the Clients' critical environments/infrastructure while adhering to all environmental, health, and safety standards (EH&S). TheIndustrial Automation Engineer must be a self-starter with strong interpersonal skills and a positive attitude to work in a data center or other critical site. In addition to having experience in working in a critical environment/data center; the individual must have a strong background with HVAC Systems, and a thorough knowledge of 480 V electrical distribution, UPS, and generators and associated switchgear.
The Industrial Automation Engineer inspect emergency power generation and reliability equipment; determining systems are functioning properly and that new designs are performed in accordance with original manufacturer’s recommendations.
Conduct daily building round inspection of facility infrastructure, such as power availability, temperature, and humidity, alarm status, etc. to be catalogued and compared for identification of discrepancies and trends.
Support in the scheduling, coordination, and oversight of all vendors during design and break/fix events to ensure personnel safety, protect the facility’s critical equipment, and maintain power to the critical load. Monitor vendors and review vendor field service reports describing all activities performed at the facility. Solicits multiple bids at certain dollar thresholds, and/or scrutinizes bids for cost savings opportunities. Oversees design direction and upcoming construction plans on critical systems (UPS, PDU, Diesel Generators, ATS, BMS, Chillers, CRAC, etc).
Qualifications: All preferred, but not required
Technical or Applied Science Degree and a minimum of five years preferred in “hands-on” maintenance and repair experience with commercial electrical systems in mission-critical facilities; emergency generators (generators, fuel delivery systems and parallel switchgear), electrical distribution (MV/LV switchgear and associated controls), critical and essential PDU's, UPS, switchgear, microprocessor control systems, HVAC, air handling units, computer grade cooling systems, and building monitoring/control systems. 5-10 years in office building environments or data centers is preferred.
